Absolut Sultan.  back
ABSOLUT SULTAN is the newest Absolut Vodka ad on the back cover of the 9/27/99 issue of The New Yorker magazine. The 1999 ad features artwork by Donald Sultan, a native North Carolina artist who has lived and worked in the New York area since 1975. The ad shows a rough square filled with a screenprint of green olives with pimentos; a black and white aquatint (looks like a bad photocopy) of an Absolut Vodka bottle is superimposed over the center. Screenprints (like his 1991 "Squash") and aquatints are 2 of the artist's favorite forms of expression. Mr. Sultan is known for his printmaking, as well as a large body of work in a variety of media; his art is always concerned with recognizable imagery.
